About The Lodge
With a total extension of 840 hectares, you will find Alegría Lodge in the heart of the Cordillera de Los Andes Patagónicos (the Patagonian Andes chain of mountains), in the Valley of the Figueroa River. This gorgeous virgin valley, replete with wildlife and “evergreen” vegetation, runs east-west extending from the Andes towards the Pacific Ocean. The Figueroa River originates in Argentinean territory where it goes by the name Río Pico; it enjoys a length of about 75 Kms and ends in the Lago Rosselot (Lake Rosselot).
The Figueroa River is part of the Río Palena Watershed. Of all the rivers in this system, it is the one that is located furthest south. This watershed constitutes an enormous sweet water reserve made up by lakes and rivers that flow towards the Pacific Ocean and out through the impressive Río Palena, which originates in Argentina (with the name of Río Corcovado) in the Lake Wintter or Palena.
The property is located on the edge of the Figueroa River and is in the shape of an “L,” with about 5 Kms of coastline on the river and a 7 Km valley over Río Geater (connected to River Figueroa). Towards the south, it borders the Cordón Media Luna (Half Moon Cordon), part of the Andes chain of mountains and with the National Park Queulat. Alegría Lodge is located between two lakes: 12 Kms to the west is Lake Verde and 52 Kms towards the east if Lake Rosselot.
MAIN HOUSE
The mountain lodge has been constructed on one of the Figueroa River’s turns and in the middle of a century old forest. It is tastefully decorated using the local styles and is 290 m2. The accommodations include a second story with three bedrooms and a central hallway. The main bedroom is a suite with a king size bed and a large balcony that looks onto the property including beautiful views of the river and the grounds. The other two bedrooms are also suites; the first has a double bed and the second has two twin beds. Both of these rooms also have a sitting room that has a sofa bed that can comfortably accommodate two additional people. Both of these rooms also have spacious balconies that respectively look out onto the grounds and the forest in the first one and onto the grounds and river in the second one. The ground floor is loft-like and includes a den with sofas, a wood burning fireplace, and bar, as well as a living room with sofas and a dining room that seats 10 people. In addition, the ground floor also has an office, a spacious toilette and kitchen. All of these rooms are decorated in a warm and inviting style. The house comfortably accommodates 12 people.
The cabin has a heater that provides the entire house with heat through the use of radiators. In addition, there is a wood burning fireplace in the den and the master bedroom has a steel wood burning heater. The kitchen has a wood burning stove that not only cooks marvelously well, but also heats the rooms quite efficiently. Electricity is provided by the electric company, but the house also has an oil generator. Water is heated through the use of an electric water heater.
The lodge is surrounded by grounds that include a small market garden where vegetables, special fruits and other products are cultivated. There is also a designated area for domestic and farm animals, including horses, bovines and oxen that are kept to provide those who stay in the lodge with necessary services.
ADDITIONAL BUILDINGS
There is a large cellar and machine shed behind the main building that can be used as a changing room before re-entering the main cabin. This is also where clothes are washed and ironed.
Two small cabins in which the service personnel and fishing guides live are located just feet from the main house. These cabins can hold up to seven people.
